Azerbaijan is a constructive partner in addressing the EU’s energy security

Bilateral issues and regional relations dominated today’s (26 January) discussions between Miroslav Lajčák, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic, and Elmar Mammadyarov, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan. The partners agreed that there is untapped potential for cooperation between the countries, with possibilities especially in the economic and investment areas. They identified prospective areas as primarily energy, construction, building infrastructure, agriculture, information technologies and tourism with an emphasis on the spa industry.

Slovakia has no problem with Islam, it is extremism and intolerance that has to be fought

“Slovakia is prepared to get actively involved in resolving problems related to religious extremism and terrorism that are hiding behind Islam,” said Miroslav Lajčák, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic, at a meeting with ambassadors of Arab states with residence in Bratislava today (22 January 2015). Against the background of the recent tragic events in Paris and averted attacks in Belgium, they jointly discussed issues of political Islam, radicalism and misusing Islam by terrorists.

A unique opportunity to be “drawn into” history and design a logo for Slovak presidency of EU Council

The Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic is offering a unique opportunity to the public to be drawn into the history of Slovakia and the EU to design the logo for the first Slovak presidency of the EU Council, which will represent the country before 500 million citizens of the European Union. The call for submitting the designs was announced today (22 January 2015) by Miroslav Lajčák, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic. “We want our domestic public to be an active and direct participant in our presidency,” stated Minister Lajčák, adding that the competition is open to both the professional and lay public. Designs must be submitted by 16 March 2015 and the terms and conditions are available on the Ministry’s website.

Minister Lajčák: “There is more joining us with Croatia than just our holiday tourists at the Adriatic”

Slovak diplomacy has watched internal political developments in Croatia with interest as well as the campaign before the presidential election that was won by Kolinda Grabar Kitarović. Croatia, as the newest EU member state and at the same time part of former Yugoslavia, has a unique position and the potential to influence the internal societal processes of the entire region in favour of European prospects. This is what was discussed today (21 January 2015) during the meeting between Miroslav Lajčák, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic, and Nenad Stazić, Deputy Speaker of the Parliament of the Republic of Croatia, who is visiting Slovakia.

FAC: Talks of foreign affairs ministers focus on topic of EU relations with the Russian Federation

The future direction of relations with Russia, combatting terrorism and the situation in the Arab world were topics of discussions of foreign affairs ministers of member states of the European Union at the meeting of the Foreign Affairs Council (FAC) in Brussels today (19 January 2015). “We were discussing what policy to adopt in the EU in relation to Russia if the situation changes,” said Miroslav Lajčák, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic, after the meeting.
