Slovakia welcomes and fully supports the Energy Union project

The Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic welcomes the European Commission’s strategy for establishing an Energy Union which was introduced by Maroš Šefčovič, European Commission Vice-President, in Brussels yesterday (25 February 2015). We appreciate that the European Commission has come with this important concept just a few months after assuming its office.

V4 countries establish a joint patent institute

The Visegrad Four (V4) countries now have a joint patent institute. Today (26 February) in the premises of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic in Bratislava, the representatives of industrial property offices of the four member states signed an Agreement on the Visegrad Patent Institute that will operate as a non-governmental organization with the aim to promote innovation and increase competitiveness in the region through better and less expensive protection of innovation that originates in the V4 countries.

Minister Lajčák presents golden plaque to head of Železiarne Podbrezová

Podbrezová (26 February) - Miroslav Lajčák, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic, presented the Golden Plaque to Vladimír Soták, Chairman of the Board of Directors and CEO of the Železiarne Podbrezová steel mill, for his contribution to promotion of Slovakia abroad. “On the occasion of this important jubilee I would like to appreciate your work and the activities of your company which have contributed to improving the business environment and employment in Slovakia as well as the exporting capacities of Slovakia and promotion of the country’s reputation abroad,” stated Minister Lajčák as he was presenting the plaque at the company headquarters in Podbrezová.

Minister Lajčák sends condolences in a telegram to the Czech foreign minister

Miroslav Lajčák, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic, today (25 February) sent a telegram expressing condolences to Lubomír Zaorálek, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic, regarding yesterday’s tragedy in Uherský Brod.

SR and Philippines: Determination to revitalize relations and push for specific outcomes

Slovakia and the Philippines are going to expand both political and economic cooperation. This was agreed by the foreign affairs ministers of both countries, Miroslav Lajčák and Albert del Rosario, in negotiations on Monday, 23 February in Manila. “There has been a long break in our relations and there is a lot to catch up with,” stated Miroslav Lajčák, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic, who is the first top official of the Slovak government to visit the Philippines after 17 years.
